Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet;
but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God

Woe, Woe, The Great City
September 6, 2010
The last issue was about Mystery Babylon, the mother of harlots, which, in practical terms, is a modern-
day unholy alliance of kings and merchants of the earth that is characterized by immorality, sensuality,
and the love of money. At the heart of Mystery Babylon is the golden calf.
However, the good news is that Mystery Babylon will fall to make way for the Kingdom of our Lord
and of His Christ . In all the rhetoric and preaching of our day, I seldom, if ever, hear this message of
good news. This is not a criticism; just recognition of where the church is spiritually in our day, more in
the character of the Old Covenant rather than the New Covenant. It is time to wake up!
In this issue, I want to prove that we have been given two powerful witnesses that the fall of Mystery
Babylon is well underway, based on the date of September 11, seven years apart. In the following verses,
there are two woes spoken three times. The first set of woes comes from the kings , the second from the
merchants , and the third from every shipmaster , passenger , and sailor , meaning all people as
laborers and consumers .
(9) “And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously
with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, (10)
standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, “ Woe , woe, the great
city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.” … (15) The
merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of
the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, (16) saying, ‘ Woe , woe , the great city …
(17) for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!’ And every shipmaster and
every passenger and sailor, … stood at a distance, (18) and were crying out as they saw
the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’ (19) And they threw
dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘ Woe, woe, the
great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour
she has been laid waste!’” (Revelation 18:9-10, 15-19 NASB)
The first date is September 11, 2001 , when the United States and the world witnessed something that
was unimaginable as all watched the twin towers of the World Trade Center fall to the ground within
one hour of each other (south tower @ 9:59 am; north tower @ 10:28 am).
The towers were symbols of the global economic system through which the nations of the world trade
(buy and sell) their goods. Those killed that day were of 55 different nationalities, signifying the kings of
the earth. On that infamous day, many stood at a distance and watched in fear as they saw the smoke
rise over NYC, a city known for world commerce and finance. On September 11, 2001, the kings
(leaders) of the earth cried the first of the three sets of woes. They cried one woe for each of
the towers, and a coalition of nations entered into two woes (wars) in Afghanistan and Iraq.
If John were standing at a distance from NYC on that day, there is little doubt that he would have
described what he saw just as he did in his Patmos vision. The fact of the matter is that John was
standing there, for he had been transported through time to see it. Transcend time!
Many Christians saw this event as the hand of the devil and an evil that had to be combated, so we went
off to war on two fronts. This is the mindset of an Old Covenant Christian; an eye for an eye. However,
there is a less known fact that reveals the hand of God. Another building also fell that day; it was
designated as building #7 and called 7 World Trade Center . It fell at 5:21 pm, which was 7 hours
and 7 minutes from the fall of the north tower. Notice that there are three sevens, and the number 7
signifies “completeness” or “spiritual perfection.”
As I see it, the fall of the towers signified that God is bringing Mystery Babylon to a complete end and
that His work is perfect. In many respects, the Twin Towers symbolized the Tower of Babel, the ancient
building project that had to be stopped through the confusion of language so that mankind would be
fruitful and multiply in the earth. Man became fruitful, but as he filled the earth, he began to build new
towers even taller and grander in order to make a name for himself and bear fruit for his own glory, not
for God and His kingdom. The Twin Towers were occupied by people of many languages representing
all the nations and kings on earth; most of which have failed to produce the fruit of the Kingdom of
Now, the second date is September 11, 2008 , when the United States and the world watched again as
the global financial system began to be shaken to its foundations. It is no coincidence that this
occurred exactly 7 years from the fall of the towers. Most analysts do not use this precise date to mark
the beginning of the shaking, and arguments could be made for other dates. However, from what I have
read, most all agree that the fall of Lehman Brothers sent shockwaves throughout the system and was
the tipping point for the global financial crisis that followed. Ellen Brown, author of Web of Debt , wrote:
“Although Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy on Monday, September 15, 2008, it was actually
“bombed” on September 11, when the biggest one-day drop in its stock and highest trading volume
occurred before bankruptcy.” Consequently, on September 11, 2008, the merchants of the earth
cried the first woe of the second set of woes. The second woe of this set came 6 months later on
March 9, 2009 when the Stock Market’s Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) crashed.
Down 7%; largest $ loss in history
Down 38% since 1/14/2000
Up 94% since low of 10/9/2002; all time high
Lehman Brothers stock plummets on rumors
News of Lehman Brothers failure
Global financial system nearly collapses
Down 39% in one year
Down 54% since all time high of 10/9/2007
Down 16% in one year
Up 15 % in one year
Stock Markets around the world are the barometers, so to speak, of what is going on in the global
financial system of Mystery Babylon. They are only one piece of data in the overall financial picture;
nevertheless, they are closely watched and reported every day, so much so that they have become a form
of worship. The markets are like the golden calf the Israelites worshipped at Sinai.
The above chart shows the all-time 2007 high and its meteoric dive until it hit bottom on 3/9/2009,
which was the second woe of this set of woes. Since then, the DJIA has briefly risen above 11000 and
lately has hovered around 10000, but it has not recovered to anything near its all-time high. Some
analysts are predicting it will dive to 5000 in one to two years, if not sooner.
As we approach September 11, 2010, there is something else brewing that may indicate how close we are
to the end of Mystery Babylon. No sector of the economy is taking on debt, and debt is the engine of
western capitalism that is fueled by usury (interest on loans). It is particularly good news to read that
consumer credit, that is, the money people are borrowing, has dropped significantly. Obviously, this is
bad news for the capitalists who drink at the trough of the golden calf.
Perhaps people are beginning to hear the voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people,
so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4).
September 11, 2010 will be 9 years from the beginning of the demise of Mystery Babylon. The number
9 signifies “judgment.” Two sets of woes have passed. A third set of woes is coming when many
people of the world will cry: “Woe, woe!” However, the number 9 also signifies “gifts and fruit
of the Spirit.” Others will cry “Hallelujah, hallelujah!” as they come out of Babylon in their immortal
bodies, full of the Spirit of God, proclaiming: The Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns!
