Dream – Repair of a Cracked Wall
P#06
Re: Disrepair of the Church
Pride & Humility
October, 1995
During October 1995, I had a vivid dream of a very large hand holding a trowel. There was a
large wall with a crack in it that extended half way up the wall, and the hand was patching the
crack.
I have no clear interpretation, but it likely signifies the Lord building His church, which includes
mending her as she falls into disrepair. Let us consider two points.
First, John was mending or repairing the nets when he was called by the Lord, and as the
apostle of love and the longest living of the original apostles, John could be called a mender of
the church as well.
Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his
brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.
(Matthew 4:21 NASB)
Thus, the dream could signify the church is being mended by the hand of God through a people
called to work with Him as menders.
Second, the Lord said He would build His church.
"I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the
gates of Hades will not overpower it." (Matthew 16:18 NASB)
But, how will He do this if His church has fallen into disrepair? What would disrepair look like?
What does He desire? Perhaps, the answer is discovered in the word pride . Pride destroys but
humility builds up.
(1) Thus says the LORD, "Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then
is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest? (2) "For My hand
made all these things, thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD. "But to
this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My
word." (Isaiah 66:1-2 NASB)
According to Peter, it is the hand of God that humbles His people.
(6) Then be humbled under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in time; (7)
"casting all your anxiety onto Him," because it matters to Him concerning you. LXX-Psa.
54:23; MT-Psa. 55:22 (1 Peter 5:6-7 LITV)
Thus, the dream could signify the hand of God repairing His church that is cracked with pride.
